i agree with what you have, there could be just 1 game separation between 3rd and 6th, will come down to tie breakers. i'm going to give an edge to the aces though...

4th place will likely be 9-9, i'm not sure many would be happy with 9-9 again, a bit of a rebuilding year yes, and with no seniors the next two years look great, but i want to win this year too! 10-8 would likely land us in 3rd.

I'm hoping the guys will surprise us and reach the top. It is a good possibility and we have to get A games from everyone. We probably won't know how good we really are until we play Indiana.

It won't be possible to predict any kind of a record, short of fantasyland, for the Aces until we see them play a game.

Somewhere around the 5th or 6th spot is about right for this year. They have too many new faces coming into this season and as freshmen they have a lot to learn. The bright spot is that this should be their lowest finish for some time to come. The future looks bright for the Aces. Now, if we can just pop one or more of those top 100 recruits for 2015.

I agree, I'd be happy with 6th or better. It would be nice if we could finish in the top 3, but we will have to wait until we see some of these new guys play first. Really, we have to avoid Thursday night in Stl. Hopefully we will continue to improve as the season progresses and can be at our peak going into the Tournament.

I'm like most of the sports analysis. I think they are any where between 2-6. WSU lost a lot this past year Their last year success was with 4 seniors that graduated. Hall was a 5 year senior Armstead, Orukpe and Williams made a over 50% of their scoring power. Last year , The MVC was a conference full of seniors. Those players have graduated and the MVC is in Rebuild mode UE has Sawvell, All freshman team 2011-12, Ballentine and Mockevicius all freshman team 2012-13. No One in the league has three in their lineup .
Placing the Aces high in 2013-14

Sophomore guard D.J. Balentine's playmaking ability could carry Evansville far this season.
Evansville Aces
2012-13: 21-15 (10-8 in Missouri Valley) In-conference offense: 1.02 points per possession (5th) In-conference defense: 1.01 points per possession (3rd)
Evansville's scoring burden last season was largely placed on senior guard Colt Ryan, a versatile wing who pumped in 20.1 points and grabbed 3.6 rebounds a contest. The biggest question entering 2013-14 is whether that void can be filled. Aces coach Marty Simmons, however, isn't too worried. He believes the new-look roster opens up more possibilities than ever before.
"Balance and versatility are our strengths," he said. "We have the ability to put a lot of different lineups out there. I think we'll have some opportunity to go with some bigger lineups. Then again, we have some quickness and athleticism where we can put some smaller lineups on the floor."

I can't see WSU at the top this year. They lost to much talent! I think UE has as good a chance as anybody IF our core players (Mock, Sawvell, Wing and DJ) are playing to their abilty. Plus we're going to need a few young faces to step up. Maybe the Hoopfest will shed some light on that.l

wow, he's got UE finishing in 9th. i'm not sure how you can have them that low with what we have coming back. three of our likely starters are past mvc all-freshmen, and we probably have the best center in the league this year. only carmichael had more blocks than the big E last year. i predict we have another mvc all-freshman on the roster right now, i just can't predict which one yet. bring on hoopfest

Plus we're going to need a few young faces to step up. Maybe the Hoopfest will shed some light on that.l Sure they lost some talent. They also have a lot of talent returning. Cleanthony Early could be the MVC's POY. Van Vleet saw significant playing time in the Shockers run to the Final Four. That kid could be something special this year. Ron Baker showed no fear in the tournament. That's why I picked them as the preseason favorite. Indiana St. ... I picked these guys second simply because they have most of their team back this year. The potential is there. They had some great wins last year. They also lost several games they shouldn't have. The Aces have potential. I see the Aces finishing as high as third or as low as seventh. Marty definitely has the program going in the right direction. From what I've read, I think he is looking forward to this season as well. I feel the same way. We've got them all back for the '14 -'15 season.

The Shockers are clearly the class of the field if Early, Baker, and VanVleet pickup where they left off last March. ISUblue (on paper) is number two. With Odum and Arop and only losing Mahurin, they should be there. 3 through 8 could be anybody. If EMO, Sawvell, Wing, et al. have progressed through the summer, DJ improves his defensive effort, and MOST importantly our frosh PG takes care of the ball, #3 isn't out of reach for us. UE finishing #6 is realistic. Right now it looks like SIU and Drake at #9 and #10.
A previous comment about having three former All-MVC frosh members is a very much overlooked fact, but one that gives me optimism.
Another positive. In last season's finale at Arch Madness, we were on the verge of being put away, deep into the second half. Who stepped up and made multiple big shots or big plays under pressure to get us back in the game and almost win it? Not the seniors....EMO and DJ..
